Report on the CTFI National Technical Course and Master Class – March 1-2, 2025

The CTFI National Technical Course took place on March 1, 2025, in Halifax, NS, hosted by the MacLeod’s Martial Arts Academy. This extraordinarily successful event welcomed 94 participants from across Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, and Quebec. This was the first time in Nova Scotia’s history having two Grandmasters at the same time provide a course. Practitioners welcomed this historical event and embraced the technical knowledge and ability provided to them throughout the day.

Two of our esteemed Canadian Grandmasters gave instruction:

  • Grandmaster Pierre Laquerre, CTFI Technical Director and Member of the ITF Technical Committee; and
  • Grandmaster Scott Downey, President of ITF Newfoundland.

Participants engaged in intensive training focusing on patterns, sparring, and self-defence, gaining valuable insights into ITF technical standards and applications. The course gave an excellent opportunity to students and instructors alike to refine their techniques under expert guidance.

The CTFI Masters Class & Master Grading took place on March 2, 2025. This momentous occasion celebrated the promotion of several dedicated Taekwon-Do practitioners to the prestigious rank of Master.

Congratulations to the newly promoted Masters:

Master David Hiltz – 8th
Master Kathy Downey – 8th
Master Ken MacKenzie – 8th
Master Jim Ripley – 7th
Master Sylvain Bourque – 7th

Their achievement is a testament to their dedication, hard work, and contribution to the development of Taekwon-Do in Canada.

Thank you to Grandmasters Laquerre and Downey for their exceptional instruction and incredible insights.

Sincerely Darren MacLeod & Amanda Lundrigan
