Over 80 students age 7 to 50 plus attended a sparring seminar in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador
on May 2nd. The sparring seminar was organized by Master Downey, and conducted by Master Laquerre. The seminar involved conditioning and flexibility, attack and counterattack drills, and adapting to ones opponent. Master Laquerre taught techniques in a very graduated and systematic manner taking students from the white belt curriculum up to black belt. We have always had a systematic approach to teaching patterns and now we also have a systematic approach to teaching sparring. A sincere thank you to Master Laquerre for all his knowledge and support in helping improve the sparring ability of students in Newfoundland and Labrador and helping instructors teach sparring to their students. Master and Mrs. Downey look forward to having Master Laquerre return to Newfoundland for further training in sparring, patterns and self-Defense.
