On Friday, May 17th, Regina, Saskatchewan, (CTFI) hosted its National Umpire Course Class B, attracting over 50 both in person and virtually from across the nation. Special guests included GM Norman, President CTFI, Masters, Marcia, Merritt and White)
The course was organized by the CTFI Umpire Committee, with presentations from the committee’s members. Mr. Chris Law, Director, led the event, supported by members Mr. Maxime Lavoie, Mr. Jeff Turchyn, and Ms. Valerie Gingras-Precourt. Their combined expertise provided attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Jury President and Center referee. As well as a look through the eyes of the Tournament and Umpire Committees.
Mr. Law emphasized the importance of consistency fairness and safety in judging, ensuring that all participants left with a clear understanding of how to uphold these principles in practice. Interactive components of the course, including mock scenarios and role-playing exercises, provided practical experience and fostered a deeper comprehension of the material.
Adding to the richness of the course were special guests Master Kevin Reinelt, Director of the Tournament and IT Committee, and Mr. David Yaffe, Committee Member. Master Reinelt brought a wealth of experience and insights into the logistical and technological aspects of tournament management, highlighting how these elements integrate with effective officiating.
