53rd Qualifying International Umpire Course Successfully Held in Quebec City

This past weekend, June 6–7, Quebec City hosted the 53rd Qualifying International Umpire Course (QIUC), bringing together more than 50 participants from across Canada, the United States, and Anguilla.

Hosted by the Canadian Taekwon-Do Federation International Umpire Committee and conducted by the International Taekwon-Do Federation Umpire Committee, the course was led by Grandmaster Abelardo Benzaquen, Chair of the ITF Umpire Committee and Master Kurt Ottesen ITF Umpire Committee member. Participants received comprehensive training on the latest ITF rules and regulations, ensuring that umpires, athletes, coaches, and officials are fully prepared for the 2026 ITF World Cup in Spain.

The event was also honoured by the presence of special guests Grandmaster Clint Norman, Senior Vice President of the ITF, and Grandmaster Pierre Laquerre, member of the ITF Technical Committee, whose attendance further highlighted the importance of this international educational event.

The weekend provided an excellent opportunity for education, discussion, and professional development, with attendees reviewing rule updates, competition procedures, officiating standards, and best practices that will be implemented at future international events.

The organizing committee would like to extend its sincere thanks to the ITF Umpire Committee, all participants whose dedication and commitment made this event a success.

We look forward to seeing the knowledge gained this weekend contribute to the continued growth and excellence of ITF Taekwon-Do officiating throughout North America and beyond.

Sincerely

CTFI Umpire Committee
